The Senators supporting deputy president William Ruto are believed to have voted to keep Waitutu as the Governor while those supporting handshakes are believed to have voted for the ouster of Waititu as a Kiambu Governor.

There was a total of 38 senators in the House on Wednesday. Some 28 senators, most of them from opposition coalition Nasa, convicted the governor on all three counts leveled against him by the county assembly and voted to remove him from office.

The Speaker of Senate had gazetted the impeachment of Kiambu Governor Waitutu at the close of the session.

Waititu becomes the second governor to be impeached by Senate since the promulgation of the new constitution in 2010.
