Born in Mexico to Kenyan parents, she grew up in Kenya with her father (professor Anyang’ Nyong’o) a government minister and a senator. Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan-Mexican actress, director, and producer best known for her Academy Award-winning performance in 12 Years a Slave (2013). She has also starred in such films as Black Panther (2018), Us (2019), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), and Little Monsters (2019).

She has been nominated for numerous awards, including two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards. She has also won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a SAG Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Career life

Lupita began her career working as a member of the production crew for different films including the Constant Gardener in 2005. She maintained this position with different films until the time when she enrolled at Yale School of Drama and won the Herschel Williams Prize for casting students with outstanding ability.

It is at this stage that she featured in her first ever movie-12 years a slave in 2013 which was based on a young imprisoned woman who was constantly abused sexually by her owner. Lupita won an Oscar and the film was named best picture.

Her latest projects are those that saw her filming the Black Panther-Wakanda Forever which was released in 2022, The Woman King, The 355 movie which is a spy thriller, and Beyoncé’s musical film Black is King.

Personal life

Lupita is a New York City resident. She is good at speaking several languages including; Luo which is her local language, English, Swahili, and Spanish. Lupita has been seen committing herself through various activities, programs, and projects.

In the year 2016 in April, Lupita launched an anti-poaching (hearts and minds) campaign in partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service and her organization, Wild aid. It was in this year on 30th April when they burned down ivory and rhino horns. This practice saw over 105 tonnes of ivory and over 1.35 tonnes of rhino horn get burnt.

This was in a demonstration to protest against the poaching and smuggling of elephants and rhinoceros body parts. Later on, in 2019, Nyong’o made her debut in the writing world with her first book –Sulwe which meant a star in the Luo language.

The book was published by Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers in 2019. The book is a story of a five-year-old Kenyan girl who had the darkest skin color in her family. The book was labeled as a best-selling book in New York. In the year 2020, she was announced as a board member of trustees for the African Center Organization.
